In January, Freedom Elementary School in Cheyenne prohibited tag at recess because it "progresses easily into slapping and hitting and pushing instead of just touching," Principal Cindy Farwell says.
Well, I guess so. Maybe if the schools would get with it and supply protective padding for the kids that want to play tag. Perhaps Everlast could come up with a variation on its sparring gear for boxing and adapt it for grade school games of tag. We wouldn't want the kids to get skinned knees or anything, or suffer the trauma of actually being tagged and shouted at derisively: "You're it!" Oh, the humanity!

The real problem is the supervision. The game escalates into slapping and hitting? Are there no adults to intervene? Are there no adults to put a slapping child in timeout?
Susan,
And that's just the point, isn't it? The supervision while tag was "legal" was deficient. Now they'll have to supervise so that "illegal" games of tag don't occur! I mean, how much less supervision is required to bust "illegal" games vs. what's required to keep kids from getting too rowdy? There still has to be supervision, eh?

Mindless... totally mindless. Sadly, the truth is, I wouldn't want a job working with kids today. There are too many rules, conditions, and you will be wrong regardless of what you do.
